Celtic Women’s midfielder Jacynta Galabadaarachchi has been named in the Scottish Womens Premier League Team of the Week.

The 22-year-old was pivotal to Celtic defeating Glasgow City 4-2 at the weekend.

The result meant that Celtic still have a slim hope of pipping City to the title.

Fran Alonso’s side also keep themselves in a good position for automatic qualification for the Champions League next season as they stay one point ahead of Rangers who are in third place.

Jacytna was in sparkling form for the Hoops. The Australian created three assists to help inflict the league leader’s first defeat of the season at Petershill Park.

Goals from Natalie Ross, Caitlin Hayes and a double from Natasha Flint put Glasgow City to the sword. Flint was denied a hattrick after City keeper Lee Gibson saved her penalty.

Jacynta signed for Celtic back in 2021 citing coach, Fran Alonso as one of the reasons she joined the club, “The way Fran coaches is what attracted me to come and play for Celtic.

“He’s Spanish and I know the way that he coaches is going to suit how I play and we can have a good relationship on and off the field” [Celtic FC]

Tonight is crucial for Celtic’s title hopes and Champions League qualification

With seven games left of the season, tonight could prove a crucial turning point at this stage in the league.

Glasgow City face Rangers at Petershill Park and Celtic are away to Hearts at the Orium.

A win for Celtic will be huge but at Petershill, dropped points for either team will have a double impact on what Fran Alonso’s team can achieve this season.

Kick-off is at 730pm.
