Celtic Women have announced the signing of Pamela Tajonar from Villarreal, after the goalkeeper played as a trialist in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Partick Thistle.

Tajonar came into the side for the win over Thistle on short-notice after Rachael Johnstone was injured in the warm-up, and has made her stay permanent subject to international clearance.

Speaking on the club website, Tajonar said: “It feels great, it’s only been a few days but I’m loving it.

“I never would have imagined that I could end up here. Many years has gone by but, it’s been really fast, really fun, I’ve learned a lot, I’ve had the opportunity to learn and grow as a player and right now I have a lot of energy to keep playing.

“I just came here, got my VISA paperwork done, I was ready. I wanted to be with the team, so I had my first training session on Saturday and then on Sunday we though there will be more training sessions before I’m able to play but it was what the team needed, so I’m ready for anything.”

Tajonar is the side’s sixth signing of the transfer window, and adds competition for Johnstone and Chloe Logan between the sticks.

The Mexican international has also played for Barcelona, Sevilla and Logrono in the Spanish Primera Division and will hope her wealth of experience will aid the Fran Alonso’s side as they look to build on their cup double from last season.

The Celtic Women’s next fixture is 12 noon kick off this coming Sunday against Spartans at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie.
