Elena Sadiku has joined in on the criticism of the Celtic board as the Women’s team boss slams the lack of investment into her side.

Celtic Women once boasted talents like Caitlin Hayes, Jacynta Galabadaarachchi and Shen Mengyu as they won the Scottish Cup under Fran Alonso.

Elena Sadiku took over from Alonso in the summer of 2024 and immediately created Celtic history by winning the league and taking the Women’s team into the Champions League group stages for the first time in their history.

But now, the Women’s side, just like Brendan Rodgers’ team, are a shadow of their former selves and Sadiku has now joined the queue of people calling out the Celtic board for their lack of investment in the team.

Elena Sadiku slams Celtic’s lack of investment in the Women’s team

Celtic Women lost 2-1 at home to Glasgow City yesterday afternoon and that led Sadiku to slam the board’s lack of proper investment into her team this season.

Sadiku told PLZ Soccer, “I feel right now that we are in a situation where teams are investing strongly and you can see how tight it is every season.

“Teams are getting better and better and we need to push in the same direction as well.

“It is not about having a fear factor but the fact that other teams are investing really well.”

The story of Celtic Women’s 2025/26 season so far

After nine games this season, Sadiku’s Celtic sit in 4th place in the Scottish Women’s Premiership table six points from Glasgow City.

Hibs are second, with Glasgow rivals Rangers in third. The 2-1 defeat to Glasgow City appears to be the last straw for Sadiku as she watches her former champions toil this season.

The poor start to the season follows Celtic’s trophyless end to last season after they finished 4th in the league and were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Glasgow City in February.

Sadiku’s story reflects that of the men’s side as it appears that the board are failing to fund the Women’s team correctly as well.
