Celtic Women snatched a last-gasp draw last night in the SWPL Glasgow Derby as an incredible 99th-minute equaliser by Caitlin Hayes kept the teams hopes for Champions League qualification alive.

The importance of coming away with a positive result from Broadwood was not lost on Fran Alonso and his team and although they huffed and puffed in the second half, a hopeful long ball split the Rangers defence and Hayes latched onto a fresh air swipe by Gers keeper Jenna Fife which allowed the Celtic defender to slip in and net the equaliser.

But it was the scenes at full time that captured the headlines as Rangers assistant manager Craig McPherson appeared to aim a headbutt at the Celtic manager, Fran Alonso.

In the post-match interview, the Celtic boss showed his class and composure with a measured response, also sharing that McPherson called him ‘a little rat’ in scenes that will shame the Glasgow club.

In the immediate aftermath, Rangers manager Malky Thomson didn’t comment on the matter but did confirm that an investigation would likely take place. [Daily Record]

Celtic remain in second place in the league keeping their Champions League qualification hopes alive.

April will be a make-or-break month for the clubs Euro dreams as the Hoops face Glasgow City twice in the space of a fortnight which could mean that, if we can get positive results from those matches, the Glasgow Derby clash on the 3rd of May could effectively seal that Champions League spot.

The Hoops also have a Scottish Cup semi-final to look forward to against Glasgow City at Hampden on the 23rd of April where they will be hoping to bring the trophy back to Parkhead after winning it for the second time in their history in 2021.
