The Ghirls have never won the top flight in Scotland but have a genuine chance to change that today in a dramatic final round of the campaign. How can Celtic win the SWPL title?

At first glance, Celtic being in third going into today’s matches puts them in a precarious position, but the fact that City and Rangers play each other is a major benefit.

If the two teams draw then a Celtic victory over Hearts will ensure the title is heading to Paradise due to a superior goal difference over City for Fran Alonso’s side.

If Rangers win and Celtic win then the Ghirls need to have a greater margin of victory against Hearts than Rangers do against City – by two would guarantee it but if Rangers vs City is low scoring, one could be enough. Currently, Rangers have a better goal difference of one over Celtic, but Alonso’s team have more goals for.

If City win, Celtic cannot win the title today but second place and that all-important Champions League place can be achieved with at least a draw.

Second place in SWPL 1 is enough to qualify for next year’s continental tournament, which would be brilliant in its own right for Celtic to achieve this season. It’s not a bad runner-up prize.

In all title-winning scenarios, Celtic need to find a way to victory, which is why having such a big crowd turnout at Celtic Park is so important. Thankfully, it seems fans have answered the call and more than 10,000 could attend. This title race has undoubtedly caught the imagination of many.
