The big Jacynta international decision that may go unnoticed after Celtic relationship comments

Celtic star Jacynta Galabadaarachchi has been in the media today after being nominated for PFA Scotland awards yesterday.

The attacker is up for the Women’s Player of the Year and Women’s Young Player of the Year awards on Sunday.

It’s been a great season for her both individually and as part of Fran Alonso‘s team, and the side face a major clash against Glasgow City at Celtic Park tonight.

Jacynta is perhaps the most talked about player in the Celtic women‘s side with much of that centring around an apparent relationship with first-team star Carl Starfelt.

News of the pair’s status was strangely announced by Sky Sports during coverage of last week’s SWPL derby against Rangers.

Yesterday, Jacynta called out the broadcaster, saying: “I think that the TV stations need to focus on the football and not my personal life.

“I don’t think my personal life is anything to do with the game and it did not need to be mentioned. It shouldn’t be everyone’s concern what I am doing in my personal life.

“I want people to come along and help promote the women’s game rather than worrying about what I am doing away from the pitch.” (Daily Mail)

Wise words that needed to be said. The unfortunate irony is that the comments may mean that a big international decision may go unnoticed.

Included in the Daily Mail‘s piece is news that Jacynta intends to play her international football for Argentina.

She was born and grew up in Australia, and has featured in their squads in the past. But her mother is half-Argentinian and that has opened the door for the country who sit 28th in the rankings.

This is a big decision to make. Let’s hope Jacynta can continue her excellent form for Celtic and make the step up at international level too.
