The “unbelievable feeling” of Celtic Park history being made

The Celtic fans have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success this century under managers like Martin O’Neil, Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers.

Every one of these managers, including Ronny Deila, has contributed to Celtic’s nine-a-row and Quadruple Treble except Postecoglou.

Ange, however, did seal the world record-breaking eighth domestic treble for Celtic. So whilst the men’s game is thriving, so now is the Celtic Women’s team.

Having won the Scottish Cup and SWPL Cup twice it was the Scottish Women’s Premier League that kept eluding the Celtic Women’s team as they finished runners-up in 2009, 2010, 2021 and 2023.

But that all changed last season when after just four short months into the job, Elena Sadiku led the Women to their first-ever league title in their history.

Sadiku’s incredible Celtic season

Fran Alonso came so close to creating history in 2023 but lost out on the title to Glasgow City on the final day as an exciting challenge by Celtic Women helped generate enormous interest in the Women’s game and record crowds to the stands.

But all that changed this summer when Sadiku’s side won the SWPL title for the first time.

And here, the Hoops gaffer recalls the title win after a last-gasp Amy Gallagher winner in the 1-0 win over Hibs at Celtic Park ended their league title hoodoo.

Sadiku said [Celtic FC], “I felt like I was pretty calm throughout the game because I know that we can create chances and that we have been scoring a lot of goals.

“When it got to the 85th minute, I was maybe thinking this doesn’t look too bright, but I was really calm during the game.

‘It was an unbelievable feeling to see us score the goal in the last minute right at the end of the game.’

“I’m so happy that Amy was the one to score the goal right at the end of the game because she has been proving herself this season.

“And I’ve also said to her that I don’t believe this is the best that we can do. I still don’t think that she has reached her full potential.

“But she deserved to be the one scoring that goal after the incredible season that she had.”

The Hoops boss will be hoping for a solid start to the campaign to give Celtic the best chance they can of defending their title.

Putting early-season daylight between themselves and one of their closest challengers would lay a marker for the rest of the season as Celtic Women look to continue their recent success and keep the excitement surrounding the Women’s team continuing.
