Celtic FC Women have suffered incredible bad luck at the worst possible time after it was revealed seven players are having to self-isolate following a suspected positive Covid-19 test.
Fran Alonso’s side play away to Motherwell this afternoon hoping to confirm their Champions League qualification position with a victory.
There’s also the possibility of winning the title if Glasgow City lose against Rangers.
Deeply unfortunate then that the squad has been hit heavily by self-isolation protocols.
The team announced today’s line-up on Twitter, going on to say: “Following a suspected positive Covid-19 case within the women’s squad, six players have been identified as close contacts.
“We will continue to work with the Government on this issue and give all those affected our full support. All seven players will be required to isolate.”
The match kicks off in a matter of minutes and you can watch all the action on the BBC Sport Scotland website.
Alonso has a close-knit squad, so hopefully the players coming into the team today can do the business and make history.
Achieving European football would be a brilliant achievement, especially at the expense of rivals Rangers.
Title glory is obviously the dream scenario.
What we can guarantee having watched the team a lot this season is that this side will be giving everything to finish the job.
