Celtic U19s have been beaten by their Feyenoord counterparts in Glasgow today, ending their participation in this season’s UEFA Youth League.

Goals from Lewis Dobbie and Daniel Kelly had the young Hoops up 2-0 at the interval.

Unfortunately, Feyenoord did come back into the game with efforts of their own in the second half. The match ended 3-2, denying the Bhoys their second win in the tournament.

The Dutch outfit dramatically scored in the 90th minute and then the fifth minute of stoppage time to claim the victory. Aymen Sliti, Thijs Kraaijeveld and Neston Goren were all on the scoresheet for the visitors.

The result means that the team managed by Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus could finish bottom in Group E, having amassed four points.

At half-time, Lazio are currently beating Atletico Madrid in Spain and would leapfrog Celtic into third if that 1-0 scoreline holds.

It had already been confirmed there would be no Celtic progression into the next round with Atletico and Feyenoord above in first and second.

It’s an improvement on last season’s finish in terms of points, but only just. Celtic finished bottom of their UEFA Youth League group in 2022/23, picking up just three points from the six matches.

There will be disappointment not to qualify for the knockout stages and to not see out today’s result, which would have at least confirmed a creditable third-placed finish above Lazio.

The Lowland League has been a difficult experience for the youngsters this season too and they’ll be hoping to string together some form in that competition to finish higher than their current ninth-placed position.

Celtic B now have matches against East Kilbdribe, Caledonian Braves and Gretna 2008 on the horizon before the turn of the year.

The young Hoops will also take on a Chelsea U21s side in the Premier League International Cup next Wednesday night.
