Celtic U19s have secured their first win of this season’s UEFA Youth League campaign with a 2-0 result away to Lazio this afternoon.

The youth team managed by Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus had already been knocked out of this year’s tournament prior to kick-off but there was still plenty of pride to play for and a chance to showcase their development against Europe’s elite.

In the 11th minute, Daniel Kelly opened the scoring after excellent work from Lewis Dobbie to win back the ball high up the pitch and fashion an opportunity.

Then, in the 73rd minute, a well-worked team move resulted in a glorious chance for substitute Bruno Davidson to tap home from close range, which he converted.

Moving on to four points after five matches, Celtic have now surpassed the points total from last year’s tournament when they finished with three. Their sole victory last term also came away from home, against RB Leipzig.

The youths will be eager to add to their tally with a home match against Feyenoord on the final matchday next month, too. Their other point in the group so far came at home to Lazio with a 1-1 result.

This has been a difficult season for the B side. There has been significant player transition and some middling Lowland League form.

However, a creditable performance away to Brighton last Friday night and this result in Italy will do wonders for their confidence.

The young Hoops will be delighted to take four points from two matches against the Italians and now have a fantastic chance to ensure they finish third in the group, rather than bottom.

Next up is a home match against Cumbernauld Colts before travelling away to Cowdenbeah. Then, Feyenoord visit Glasgow on 13th December at the City Stadium.

In other news, 3 changes, winger dilemma; Celtic team news, suspensions and Predicted XI for big Lazio clash.
