Celtic B youngster Bosun Lawal has opened up on his injury woes as he gets set to make an impact at Ibrox this Saturday.

The Celtic youngsters will take on Rangers B in what’s sure to be a feisty Lowland League clash this weekend. The game will mark Lawal’s 3rd game back after an injury picked up in November.

The centre-back is thought of extremely highly amongst the Parkhead ranks. Celtic B coach Tommy McIntyre has told 67HailHail in the past that the club believes it has a “real talent” on their hands.

And Lawal, who will have major first-team aspirations in the not too distant future, has discussed his injury layoff as he looked ahead to Saturday’s derby. Speaking via Celtic YouTube, the Irish talent said: “Yes it’s been a tough couple of months, but I’m just happy to be back doing what I love really. I was out for 13 weeks – 3 months. It was very tough at the start because I didn’t know how long I would be out for. But with the help of the medical staff, I feel good to be back. They’ve helped me a lot.

“With these type of injuries you just have to be patient. As much as you want to be back playing and get on the pitch, you just have to be patient and just make sure you’re 100% fit for when you get back on the pitch.

“[At Ibrox] We’ll just do what we do with the quality we have. We can perform and beat anyone on our day really. It’s obviously going to be a tough day going away to Rangers. We just have to stay calm and play our game. The team will always, no matter what happens, we’re good enough to come back and put in a good performance and make teams work.

“I just want to maintain playing and try not to get injured for the rest of the season. Hopefully try and get into the first-team if I can but if not I just want to keep doing well with the boys and see where we go.”

Bosun Lawal and Celtic B looking to make a big Ibrox impression

The fixture against Rangers B comes hot on the heels of their Glasgow Cup meeting last week in which a 1-1 draw was earned at the Penny Cars Stadium in Airdrie.

The 2 sides will also meet at Celtic Park on April 12th in their final meeting of the season. There will be a real desire from the youngsters to go out and make an impression too given the eyes that will be on both matches.

For Lawal, his desire this season is clear. To ensure he fully overcomes his injury woes and doesn’t see a recurrence before the season ends. Sensible in truth given he was missing since November.

Then, the young Irishman can look ahead to next season. It’ll be interesting to see whether he makes the summer pre-season camp with the first-team. Given how highly he’s rated however and the fact he regularly trains with the senior side anyway, you would imagine he’s primed for a call-up.

Hopefully we can see a bit of Lawal in the first-team next season if Ange feels he’s ready. He’s clearly impressed enough and shown that he’s far too good for B team level for another full campaign.

Credit to him for the impression he’s made since joining from Watford last summer. Hopefully, he can shine again and boss it at Ibrox this weekend. It’s a huge opportunity for everyone to catch the eye of not just the manager, but the supporters too.
