Celtic youth prospect Ewan Otoo has won the Scottish League One title with Dunfermline this afternoon, helping his team surge to a 5-0 win over Queen Of The South.

The Fife side are now on their way back to the Scottish Championship after a stellar season under James McPake. They are now 13 points clear of Falkirk with just three games remaining, clinching promotion and the trophy.

Otoo didn’t arrive at the club until early February after featuring extensively for the Celtic B side in the Lowland League but he has become a regular defensive presence in recent weeks, making eight appearances in total, including today.

Now 20, the chances of an Otoo breakthrough into the Celtic senior set-up seem slim at this stage but his contract at the Bhoys doesn’t expire until 2024, so there is still hope of progress.

Even if his long-term future isn’t with Celtic, he’ll have done his chances of signing for a decent senior side no harm at all after this loan spell.

It was a valuable experience for him to feature in a team that had to win every week to achieve their ambitions. Although he’s been performing in a lower league, it’s that kind of mentality that players need to succeed at the Bhoys.

Otoo will now enjoy the remaining few games of the season and the summer break, where more decisions will be made on his Celtic future.

Congratulations and full credit to Ewan for heading out of his comfort zone and contributing to tangible success so early in his career.
