Celtic youth talent Josh Dede has signed his first professional contract with the club today.

Dede signed for the club as a youth talent back in 2017. And the youngster’s hard work has evidently paid off as he was rewarded with his first professional deal today.

The youngster announced the news on his Instagram page today, and becomes the latest youth talent to commit to the club:

The defender has featured for Celtic B already this season and has impressed under Tommy McIntyre. He’s also been capped at youth level for Scotland and was recently called up to the under-17 squad before having to withdraw.

Dede, a right-back who likes to drive forward, will now likely switch his focus on getting more minutes at B team level.

The news comes just a week after fellow youth talent Daniel Kelly also signed his first professional deal.

Another promising sign for Celtic as youth talents continue to commit

It’s always pleasing for Celtic supporters to see their top youth talents commit to the club further. It provides us with another morale boost after Kelly also signed up last week.

Ange Postecoglou has always stressed that he’ll invest time and opportunity into youngsters who have a commitment to the football club. That’s been proven this season with the host of Celtic B talents who have not only been training with the first team but also receiving minutes.

At only 16 years of age, there’s plenty of time for Dede to make his own Celtic debut. And it’s clear that the only way to do that is to shine at B team level.

Ange has given opportunities to the likes of Owen Moffat, Ben Doak, and Joey Dawson just to name a few. That must be the kind of trend that has the Lennoxtown youngsters excited.

Dede will undoubtedly have his own goals and ambitions. And knowing that the opportunity will be there for him if he continues to develop was surely an enticing prospect for him.

All the best to Josh as he kickstarts his career as a professional.
