Daniel Kelly is yet to commit his future to Celtic with his contract at the club set to expire in December despite having an offer on the table.

Brendan Rodgers has taken a hardline stance on negotiations with the youngster, and made it clear he wouldn’t be involved in pre-season while his situation remains unresolved.

He stated earlier in the summer: “Daniel, as a young player, again, has been offered a really, really good contract by the club. A contract that would see him come into the first-team squad and play and perform and develop because he has a lot of development to do.

“I’ve spoken with the agents and the player some months back to say, ‘listen, if we can’t tidy this up by the summer, then it’s very hard to be with the team in the pre-season’. It’s really as simple as that.”

Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have all been mentioned as suitors for Kelly. Nevertheless, there hasn’t been any progress, much to the frustration of some Celtic supporters.

With his future up in the air, the Scotland Under-19 cap continues to feature at B Team level despite uncertainty.

Daniel Kelly gets himself on the scoresheet

Celtic B were in action against Gala Fairydean Rovers last night and drew 2-2 in a match where Kelly got himself on the scoresheet and claimed an assist for Jude Bonnar’s opener.

The young Celts remain unbeaten in their first three Lowland League matches, claiming two victories and a draw.

Kelly has been an impressive presence in the engine room and earned praise from Cumbernauld Colts boss David Proctor, who he relished the opportunity of his players coming up against.

Despite this, his long-term future at Parkhead hangs in the balance. The longer it drags out, you would be inclined to believe that a solution may not be forthcoming.

Stranger things have happened, there could still be hope on that front. However, Kelly is free to leave the Bhoys in a matter of months, so there needs to be clarity one way or another.
