Recent Celtic summer signing Justin Osagie has received his first call-up for the Ireland under-19s squad next month.

The 17-year-old appeared to arrive at the club last week, with journalist Fraser Fletcher posting a picture of the youngster holding a Celtic shirt at Parkhead.

It is believed that Osagie has signed a three-year deal at Celtic, joining from the academy of English Premiership side West Ham United.

The Irishman, who is also eligible to play for England and Nigeria, originally joined the Hammers from Southend United in 2020.

Before agreeing a move to West Ham, Osagie was also subject to interest from the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hostpur.

However, after making just one competitive appearance for West Ham’s under-18s side, the highly-rated youngster has completed a move to the Hoops.

Osagie has received a further boost this week after it was announced that he had been selected for the Ireland under-19s squad for the first time, ahead of their European Championship qualifiers next month.

The Irish national team take on Hungary, Wales and Gibraltar, with the Bhoys’ newest recruit becoming the latest young player to receive a youth international call-up whilst at the club.

He will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Bosun Lawal, Johnny Kenny and Rocco Vata, who are all seen as regulars in the Ireland youth setup.

Although the move to Celtic is yet to be officially confirmed by the club, the recent pictures at Parkhead all but ensure that Osagie will be a Hoops player.

It is expected that he will feature for the Celtic B side, whose second season in the Lowland League got underway at the end of July.

It should be interesting to see if the former West Ham man is named amongst any squads in the coming weeks as he prepares to embark upon his first international call-up for Ireland in a month’s time.
