The Celtic B side suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday evening, losing out 1-0 to Berwick Rangers.

The young Celtic side made a strong start to their second campaign in the Lowland League last weekend, defeating recently relegated Scottish League Two side Cowdenbeath 3-1.

Looking to continue their positive opening to the 2022/23 season, the Bhoys travelled to the borders to take on Berwick Rangers.

However, the B side failed to make it two wins from their first two matches, suffering their first taste of defeat this season to the hands of Berwick.

After conceding the only goal of the game so early on, the Hoops never really looked like getting back into the match, failing to trouble the home side’s goalkeeper.

Joint boss Stephen McManus provided his reaction to the match, expressing his disappointment at how his second match alongside Darren O’Dea in the dugout went.

He said [Celtic FC]: “We never started the game well and got punished for it early on. When you concede early on in the game, you’re on the back foot, and we never played with the same intensity that we’ve been doing in training and games.

“We moved the ball nowhere near as quickly enough as we have been doing and our decision-making in the final third was poor, our final pass was poor, and ultimately that’s what cost us.”

He continued: “They’ll dust themselves down, we’ll be back into training in the next couple of days, and we will look to the next one.

“There’s loads of games this. The boys are gonna play loads and loads of minutes, which is important. All the boys just now feel as though they are on the cusp of first-team football, but they’ve got a long way to go.

“But the good thing is, the games come thick and fast, they’ll prepare well, they’ll recover well, and we will look forward to the game at the weekend.”

Quick chance to bounce back for Celtic B side.

As McManus states, thankfully, for the B side, the games come thick and fast across the next few weeks and months.

The Celtic youngsters will have the chance to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to face Spartans in Edinburgh this Saturday.

However, that fixture will be no easy feat for the Bhoys, with Spartans having taken six points off Celtic last season. Albeit, with a number of key stars missing on both occasions due to international duty.

It should still provide the Hoops with a good opportunity to bounce back and show what they are made of at an early stage of this season.
