Celtic youngster Ben Wylie has completed a loan move to Scottish League One side Airdrieonians.

The 20-year-old joined the club’s academy in 2018 and has progressed through the ranks up to the Celtic B side last campaign.

Wylie was a regular part of Tommy McIntyre’s young Hoops side in their first season in the Lowland League, finishing the season as the top creator with 12 assists.

The midfielder also currently holds international experience, having featured for Northern Ireland from under-17s level through to under-21s.

Wylie already has experience of a loan spell after heading back to Northern Ireland in the 2020/21 season, picking up consistent minutes for Ballymena United.

This afternoon, Airdrie announced the signing of the talented youngster, who is expected to spend the 2022/23 season on loan at the Penny Cars Stadium.

The Northern Irishman isn’t the first Celtic youngster to make the same loan move, with three separate academy players joining Airdrie for a spell last year.

Reacting to his move, Wylie was insistent that he was ready to get going and opened up on the club’s previous Celtic loan links.

He said [Airdrie FC]: “The manager brought it across to me that they play nice football. Brody Paterson, Jon Afolabi and Kerr McInroy were all here last seasons, and they’ve all went on to do good things off coming to Airdrie.

“I have a hunger to win, and I want to win every week!”

Airdrie assistant boss Callum Fordyce has previously spoken out about the relationship between both clubs, and new manager Rhys McCabe has now moved to add the Celtic youngster for the coming season.

Due to Wylie’s age, he is now too old to turn out for the Celtic B side in the Lowland League. So, his move to Airdrie should provide a good platform for more consistent minutes and help continue his development as a player.

We wish him all the best of luck for the season ahead!
