The Lee Congerton rumours were persistent last night in that he had left the club.

Unfortunately for many, however, this looks like it may be a bogus story. Many have been claiming on social media this morning that the suggestion is nothing more than a lie.

The club haven’t made an official announcement on the head scout’s position at Parkhead. This likely means that he’s still in the gig for the foreseeable future.

That didn’t stop supporters from getting a tad excited last night. Congerton’s reputation with fans is on a shoogly peg after a disastrous summer transfer market.

Here, we take a look at some of the best reactions to last night’s news of the Englishman potentially departing Celtic.

Congerton remains a disastrous appointment

At this stage of the game, Celtic fans have every right to ask what Congerton is doing at their club on a day-to-day basis. Still, the Chief Scout has yet to identify a successful signing, an appears to only be in the job because he’s a close friend of Brendan Rodgers.

The sheer excitement of the Celtic supporters last night shows you just how vilified Congerton is at the club. He identified the likes of Marvin Compper, who has been a total waste of £1million.

His job is under some serious threat ahead of the January transfer window. Celtic need some recruits in to help boost their eight-in-a-row bid and their push for a treble-treble. If Congerton fails to provide once again, then he surely wouldn’t survive it.

The fact is that Congerton played his part in what was a brutal summer for the Celtic support. It was his job to identify targets, with hardly anyone of real credibility being mentioned in the rumour mill over the summer.

As of right now, it appears he’s still clinging onto his cushy Parkhead job. Another poor transfer window, however, and that may very well change.
