Some Celtic fans have reacted amusingly to Dedryck Boyata’s performance against Rangers.

The Belgian centre-back put in a terrific shift at Celtic Park on Sunday. An Olivier Ntcham goal was enough for Celtic to see off the challenge of Rangers. But it was Boyata who took much of the plaudits after the display.

There’s no doubting that the Belgian is getting back to his best. The former Manchester City man went through a saga involving him refusing to play for the club on two occasions. This led to the support venting their anger at Boyata, who’s ultimately come back into the fold.

And some Celtic supporters seem to now be seeing the funny side after another top display against Rangers.

Here’s the best of what Celtic fans had to say about Boyata’s performance on Sunday:

Boyata’s renaissance is certainly an interesting one. He looked like he had no future whatsoever in a Celtic jersey just several weeks ago.

But since his return into the side, Celtic have managed to keep three consecutive clean sheets. Nobody can doubt anymore that the Hoops need him at the back.

Supporters seem to have accepted that fact, with many still backing the Belgian to be a big hit.

Whether the former Manchester City defender stays beyond the end of the season is a huge doubt however. There hasn’t been much talk or determination from Boyata to stay beyond the current campaign. His attempts to leave the club a couple of weeks ago may also prove that he’s still eyeing an exit when he can.

Yet, until then, supporters and Brendan Rodgers can be delighted with his involvement. He remains Celtic’s best defender, and given the current situation with centre-backs, the Hoops are in no mood to pick and choose.

Boyata will continue to be a solid performer for the rest of the season (or at least until January). Until then, Celtic fans should enjoy their increased solidness.
