67 Hail Hail looks at the four players to have scored a hat trick for Celtic against Rangers.

Scoring against Rangers is a big moment for any Celtic player, but to score a hat trick can write yourself into the history books.

There hasn’t been a hat trick from a Bhoys star since 2016, when Moussa Dembele bagged three in a 5-1 riot at Celtic Park.

In total, there has only been four and there will be plenty who hope they can add to the list in the future.

So, with that, here are the four Celtic stars who have taken the match ball home against their Old Firm rivals.

Celtic players who have scored a hat trick against Rangers

4 – Billy McPhail – 19 October, 1957

The first Celtic star to score a hat trick against Rangers, Billy McPhail did so in style as part of a 7-1 win in the Scottish League Cup final.

His first was a lovely header before two well-taken finishes, including one where he ran half the length of the pitch before cooly slotting home.

3 – Stevie Chalmers – 3 January, 1966

One of the Lisbon Lions was the next player to bag a trio of goals against the city rivals.

Stevie Chalmers is a Celtic legend and only enhanced his reputation with supporters, bagging a 40-minute hat trick as part of a 5-1 demolition win.

That win was crucial and put the Hoops two points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand and was a great way to kick off 1966.

2 – Harry Hood – 5 December, 1973

Fans would have to wait another six years before a Celtic player bagged three goals in a game against Rangers. Luckily for them, Harry Hood picked a great time to do so and on any other day, it could’ve been four goals.

Hood often turned up when the Hoops would play against Rangers and the 1973 Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park was one of those. His first was a header after a clever ball from Kenny Dalglish before tapping home from close range, getting on the end of Billy McNeill’s header.

The goal that sealed the deal was a brilliant left-footed strike that completed the perfect hat trick of header, left foot and right foot.

1 – Moussa Dembele – 10 September, 2016

The first Old Firm derby under Brendan Rodgers was a memorable one. Not only did Celtic thump Rangers 5-1, they also witnessed a first hat trick from a Bhoys player in 43 years.

Like Hood, Dembele also netted a perfect hat trick as the Hoops ran riot.

It was this game that the Frenchman announced himself to the Celtic Park faithful and he would go on to be a thorn in Rangers’ side, scoring seven times against them during his time in Glasgow.

Dembele loves to troll Rangers fans online too and you can bet your house he will do again the next time Celtic beat their rivals.
