Here, we rank Celtic star Matt O’Riley’s top five goals in a Hoops shirt after the midfielder racked up 100 appearances for the club during the 2023/24 campaign.
Since signing for an absolute bargain £1.5m from MK Dons, we Celtic fans have struggled to wonder why the English outfit let O’Riley go for such a measly sum.
But on the flip side, it is a testament to the incredible Celtic recruitment surrounding the deal and it’s safe to say O’Riley has skyrocketed his own value since the transfer.
O’Riley reached 100 Celtic games in an away win over St Mirren and while his goal in that game doesn’t feature in this list, we have some absolute crackers for you to scroll through below.
We present to you, Matt O’Riley’s top five goals for Celtic.

5 – Matt O’Riley vs St Mirren (February 2023)
We’ll kick things off with a Scottish Cup goal netted against the Buddies, as Celtic romped to a 5-1 success to reach the quarter-final stage.
With the Hoops 3-1 up, O’Riley made the game safe in the 90th minute when he had space and time to curl a fantastic finish in off post and past Trevor Carson. Skip to the 7:10 mark to watch the strike.
4 – Matt O’Riley vs St Johnstone (April 2022)
Celtic fired SEVEN past St Johnstone as Ange Postecoglou’s men opened up a nine-point lead at the top of the Premiership on our way to the title.
And O’Riley arguably scored the pick of the bunch with a wonderfully executed effort that flew into the top corner.
With the Dane lingering inside the box, his quick touches allowed him just enough space to shoot – and what a goal it was. Go to the 3:05 mark to relive the moment.
3 – Matt O’Riley vs St Johnstone (December 2023)
No, we haven’t chosen the same goal twice. The classy Celtic midfielder certainly loves a cracker against the Perth Saints and his most recent against them was a pearler.
O’Riley takes a lovely touch to move the ball in front of him after receiving a pass from Kyogo, before hitting one of the sweetest strikes you’ll ever see him hit.
The Hoops ran out as 3-1 winners that day in what was a comeback victory for Brendan Rodgers and his charges. Watch the beauty at the 3:00 mark.
2 – Matt O’Riley vs Motherwell (September 2023)
Surely as soon as you read ‘O’Riley vs Motherwell’, you knew exactly what this goal is going to be? If not, where have you been?
Not too long into the 2023/24 season, Celtic played out a thrilling match with the Steelmen at Fir Park. The sides couldn’t be separated before Luis Palma appeared to have netted an 87th-minute winner.
But Blair Spittal silenced the huge Celtic travelling support with an equaliser FIVE minutes into stoppage time. Not to worry, up step Matt O’Riley.
His trademark run into the box was tracked by Greg Taylor, who whipped a lovely ball into O’Riley’s path at the back post. His finish was sublime as he took it first time and placed it into the top corner past Liam Kelly.
Cue absolute bedlam in the away end. 3:15 for this goal.
1 – Matt O’Riley vs Hearts (October 2023)
And now for our clear winner, which just goes to show how technically gifted Matt O’Riley is as a player.
Once again, the Dane’s quality shone through when he was picked out in the box by a delicate Luis Palma chipped cross.
Hearts were bamboozled by O’Riley’s movement, but nobody expected him to meet the pass – which is coming right over his shoulder – on the volley and put the ball into the opposite corner exquisitely.
We don’t need to say anymore, this one is for watching. And thankfully, there are two full glorious minutes of this footage provided by Celtic’s official ‘every angle’ video.
