New Celtic kit is a beauty, but club’s managerial chaos makes it a difficult sell

Celtic have today announced their new away kit for the upcoming 2021/22 season, but it hasn’t been received with the usual excitement.

The new kit release is generally an exciting time for Parkhead supporters. Seeing what our manufacturers have come up with for the new season always seems to get the pulses going. Especially when it comes to the specialised away kit.

Celtic today provided that announcement as they showed fans a glimpse of the kit. Supporters can now pre-order with the kit available from June 24th. Shirts will start at £65, with shorts priced at £35. Socks will cost £15, taking the total kit price to a staggering £115 [Celtic Store].

There’s no doubt it’s a beauty. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but for many it’ll be striking. The dark green with the gold detailing is certainly eye-catching. As is the embroidered Celtic logo. It’s a cracker, and it will be nice to see it in action next season.

We also have to accept here that the promotions team at Celtic may not have had a choice. We don’t know the full details of their contract with Adidas. So having a pop at them in particular would be extremely harsh.

Celtic fans won’t feel the urge to splash out on new away kit

But you can’t get past the idea that Celtic are again asking fans to delve into their pockets. To search for £65 in order to buy the new away shirt despite failing to provide us with a manager as of yet.

We’re absolutely leaderless and directionless as a football club just now. Fans simply don’t want to hear about kit launches or how nice next season’s jersey is. There are other more pressing matters such as organising our football department out.

You can’t expect fans to buy into this. The last thing many want to do is pour more money into the club. Not out of spite, but out of concern that we have no idea what direction we’re going in. If Celtic had managed to secure Eddie Howe in recent weeks, for example, this would’ve gone down a lot better.

And whilst many supporters are keen to point out how beautiful the kit actually is, some just aren’t having it. Here’s a taste of the fan responses to this morning’s statement:

In other news, a Euro club is reportedly keen on luring Olivier Ntcham away from Celtic.
