3 changes, Kyogo call… Celtic team news and Predicted XI vs St Mirren

Celtic continue their defence of the Scottish Cup on Sunday afternoon with a tricky test away to St Mirren in Paisley.

While most of the rest of the Scottish Premiership enjoyed ties against lower-league opposition this weekend, both the Bhoys and the Buddies drew a tough encounter.

St Mirren will be right up for this one-off knockout match. A strong cup run would consolidate the job that Stephen Robinson is doing at the club, also having aspirations for a European qualification finish in the top flight.

However, for all of Celtic’s ups and downs this season, the Bhoys are still eyeing a league and cup double. Despite an early exit from the League Cup, Brendan Rodgers’ side are expected to reach the Hampden stages of this competition and come out on top in the Premiership, too.

What kind of team will the Celtic boss go with today to deal with the home side? Here’s our best go at the eleven…

Potential Celtic team vs St Mirren

Joe Hart will continue in goal. Rodgers hasn’t utilised cup goalkeepers this season and the Englishman will undoubtedly be trusted again this afternoon.

The rest of the backline will have a makeshift feel to it due to injuries sustained by Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor in recent weeks.

Taylor is close to a return but Alexandro Bernabei is more likely to feature, while Anthony Ralston will come in on the right flank.

Stephen Welsh has shaken off a mid-week injury concern but Maik Nawrocki and Liam Scales may well get the chance to resume a central defensive partnership.

In midfield, Callum McGregor and Matt O’Riley are almost guaranteed starters. Paulo Bernardo has also been consistently preferred to Odin Holm for a while now.

There are plenty of ways the attacking front three could shake out. Kyogo Furuhashi could return to the line-up but I have a feeling Rodgers will want to capitalise on Adam Idah’s confidence after his midweek double.

Luis Palma should come back into the team after being rested against Hibernian, with Daizen Maeda a potentially crucial contributor on the right flank.

With Nicolas Kuhn, Liel Abada and Hyeongyu Oh on the bench if needed, amongst others, Celtic should have plenty of firepower to get the job done.

Your predicted XI in full is: Hart, Ralston, Nawrocki, Scales, Bernabei, McGregor, Bernardo, O’Riley, Maeda, Palma, Idah.
