Celtic Park has a new hero.

In the second consecutive game, a Celtic debutant has scored in the last minute. First it was Junior Adamu, and tonight, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stepped up.

Martin O’Neill’s men were as wasteful as they have been this season, missing a plethora of chances against 12th-placed Livingston.

It looked to be a missed opportunity until The Ox stepped up, curling his effort beyond Jerome Prior to seal the three points for Celtic.

The midfielder has been speaking after his special moment.

He hasn’t always been known for his goalscoring, but the Englishman’s timing couldn’t have been better.

Speaking after the game, Oxlade-Chamberlain admitted that he’d been thinking of moments like that prior to his debut.

Oxlade-Chamberlain told Celtic TV: “I was drawing that one up in the hotel room earlier! They’re the things you dream of, still at this stage, later on in my career…

“Moments like that… it’s why we play this game and you never get bored of stuff like that.

“I’m just delighted that the club’s given me the chance to be back on the pitch, put a bit of faith in me to have moments like that.

“Now it’s my job to add moments of quality like that. The boys, like Cal said, were knocking the door down for a long time there.

“We’re going to need moments like that. Bits of quality. Be a bit more clinical to see games out. Great character from the boys, they stayed focused all the way through the game and got the job done.

“[Character] is everything. You saw the other night, it’s a special special place. Tonight proves it.

“I’ve seen it over the years, watching Celtic. Now to feel that… it’s a massive, massive club and the fans can play such a big role.

“For us, as players. It’s our job to keep inspiring them. Keep them there, keep them with us.”
