Benjamin Nygren has made a positive start to life as a Celtic player.

Hopefully, Nygren’s morale hasn’t been affected because it has been an October international window to forget for the versatile forward.

It’s World Cup qualifiers galore across the footballing world, as teams are at their final hurdles to book that ultimate golden ticket to America, Canada and Mexico next summer.

But Sweden might be sitting at home for the second World Cup running because things have gone from bad to even worse this past week, and Nygren has had to watch it all unfold from the bench.

Jon Dahl Tomasson is the Sweden coach, and he has made some odd calls, including leaving Nygren on the bench for defeats to Kosovo and Switzerland recently.

Not only did Sweden fail to score in those matches, but Nygren was never used, despite having two goals on the international stage from six matches, as Newcastle United’s big-money winger Anthony Elanga only played 45 minutes.

These were just brutal calls against the Celtic man, but baffling considering how poorly Sweden are playing, with their star striker, Alexander Isak, even calling out the tactics.

Alexander Isak calls out Sweden’s tactics

Sweden played a back three against Kosovo on Monday, with two strikers up front, as Isak played alongside Arsenal hitman, Viktor Gyokeres.

Despite such firepower up the pitch, Sweden not only failed to score this week, but have two goals from their four World Cup qualifiers – and that came in one match, as they sit bottom of their group and on one point.

That’s why you have to wonder about this treatment of Nygren, as Isak didn’t hold back and called out his manager’s tactics.

“It’s terribly terrible,” said Isak, as quoted by Telegrafi. “Shameful. Disappointed, once again. Everything is very bad,

“We are playing very badly. The way we are playing is not working. We are also doing very badly individually.

“It is a combination of everything. There has been a negative development since the World Cup qualifiers started; there has been no progress. It is sad,”
