Alistair Johnston couldn’t hide his delight at making his first appearance since a long period out with injury.

Johnston was introduced as a second-half substitute in Celtic’s 3-1 win against Falkirk and was given a rapturous reception when he came onto the pitch at Parkhead.

The full-back admitted that he was ‘exhausted’ watching the players warm up but was delighted to be thrown in at the time where the game was still hanging in the balance.

Speaking to Sky Sports after coming back onto the pitch, and even captaining the Hoops, the Canadian said that it was great to feel the noise of the Celtic fans.

“It’s been tough watching from the sidelines for pretty much this whole season,” Johnston said.

“I was hoping to come into a 2-0 but at the same time all the games in the split aren’t going to be easy so it’s good to get some minutes where you could feel it could get a bit nervy.

“I thought the subs were great, I thought the boys put in a great shift and it was nice to get that third goal. It was something that we deserved.”
