Ally McCoist has hit out at Diego Simeone for having ‘no class’ after he didn’t shake the hands of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

In the reverse fixture at Celtic Park, whilst the Atletico Madrid boss did shake Brendan Rodgers’ hands, he did it in an awkward and half-hearted fashion whilst gesturing towards the pitch after the full-time whistle.

Well, after 10-man Celtic were thrashed 6-0 by Atletico Madrid last night, the former Argentine midfielder proceeded to run straight down the tunnel rather than acknowledging the Bhoys boss – Rodgers did react to Simeone’s comments before the game.

And Ally McCoist was having none of it by stating ‘I think he is rude’ and someone who has ’no class’ or ‘no manners’, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (08/11/23 at 6:10 am).

When the other side of Glasgow is being critical like that towards a man like Diego Simeone for his actions, or lack of them in this case, in support of Celtic, then you know you have done something seriously wrong.

It’s great to see Brendan Rodgers not get involved in it all and just continue in his ways, with Ally McCoist letting rip after the night of the game.

Diego Simeone and Celtic

“I tell you who I am not having, by the way,” said McCoist. “I am not having that manager, Simeone.”

Alan Brazil responded: “His antics on the touchline. He does it all the time.”

McCoist added: “I am not having it. I just think he is rude. He has no class and no manners. I really do. The other week not shaking hands with Brendan was embarrassing. I don’t know what happened last night, but I just saw him run straight up the tunnel again like he isn’t going to shake hands with anybody again.”

Brazil stated: “Stuff them. They won’t win anything, anyway.”

A night to forget for Celtic

When the dust has settled and Rodgers looks back on that performance and result, it will hurt and take a while to digest.

Yes, the Bhoys were down to ten men pretty early on in the game when Daizen Maeda’s challenge was overturned to a red.

But the team, somehow, should have stopped it from turning into the embarrassing scoreline that it did and tried to be more competitive.

Let’s be honest, Celtic’s chances are realistically now over of qualifying for the knockout stages. It’s now about pride and just fighting until the end.
