Andrew Gutman’s loan deal with Charlotte Independence is clearly well underway.
The left-back only signed for the Parkhead club in January. He was announced as a joint-signing along with fellow American full-back Manny Perez.
Yet, their luck couldn’t have been any different when it came to their subsequent loan deals. As Perez was sent out to North Carolina, Gutman was supposed to head to Nashville.
But that deal was cancelled by the MLS for reasons unknown. As unfair as it was on Gutman, however, it looks like he and the club have finally found a solution for his immediate future.
Posting on social media website Instagram, the left-back was sporting the colours of Charlotte Independence. In addition to that, Gutman revealed that he “trusts the process” at Celtic Park.
An intriguing signing
It’s extremely rare that Celtic hunt American youth systems for talent. Gutman and Perez are the only joint-American duo the club have ever signed.
Incredibly, the only USA star Celtic have had play for the first-team is John Blackwood back in 1899. The Hoops, of course, had Dominic Cervi on their books between 2009 and 2012, but he never made a top-team appearance.
Hopefully, the duo of Gutman and Perez can break that record and become successes at Parkhead in the long-term.
Both players, have yet to play senior football. Their respective moves to USL football teams is hardly to a league of any substantial quality. But both won’t be playing for the Hoops anytime soon, and continuing their development where they’re comfortable for now is a wise move.
Question marks will also rise over whether Gutman is the replacement for Kieran Tierney. Despite the fact we all want KT to stay for the long-term, the big-money vultures will start to swirl around him one day. For a club like Celtic, that’s a difficult fact to sweep under the carpet.
Regardless, that seems a long way from now anyway. Gutman clearly isn’t in much rush if his Instagram is anything to go by.
