On Saturday, Andy Halliday was an unused substitute as his Motherwell side were thrashed by St Mirren in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden.
And then 24 hours later, he was in the Open Goal studio, streaming live on YouTube, as Celtic locked horns with Rangers, looking to book a ticket with St Mirren.
To nobody’s surprise, Halliday was left distraught at Celtic beating Rangers 3-1, but all of that came after his meltdown over the red card incidents.

How Andy Halliday reacted to Thelo Aasgaard’s red card for Rangers against Celtic
In the first half, Thelo Aasgaard was shown a straight red for booting Celtic’s Anthony Ralston near the groin area, and leaving a stud mark on his leg following a pretty late and aggressive challenge.
As the incident occurred, a distraught Halliday seemed pretty confused by it all, including questioning the red card decision by stating, ‘Is he not supposed to go for the ball there?’, despite admitting it was the correct call.
The Motherwell midfielder also began expressing that red card calls such as this are what he ‘hates’ about the modern game.
This was Halliday’s response as Aasgaard’s challenge went in: “He’s off. Game over. See, the thing is, it’s so harsh. It is a red. It’s just modern-day football.
“He actually wins the ball as well. I am sure he kicks the ball first from that other angle. Never going to get overturned. It’s mad.
“I might as well go up the road. You (Paul Slane) might as well watch the game on your own. I am saying it’s a red because of the modern game, right? But honestly, I just hate that. Is he not supposed to go for the ball there?”
And then Halliday loses it over Auston Trusty’s challenge…
Then came the Auston Trusty challenge just before the half-time break. Even the ardent Celtic fan will admit, if Aasgaard’s is a red, then so is Trusty’s.
But Halliday went into full meltdown mode when he realised that on-field referee Nick Walsh played on, and only gave Trusty a yellow card.
“Red card, there we go,” responded Halliday after seeing the Trusty challenge. “Ten men each. Ten men each, game back on.
“If that’s not a red card. Oh my God. Red card all day long. It’s a red card. Don’t tell me he’s played on?! No, there is no way he has played on. No way. He has booted him in the head. That is f___ing laughable. That’s embarrassing. Watch people try and defend that.
“This is going to sound bitter. But I am genuinely giving my opinion on the game. I think Celtic have been bang average as well. Rangers have had three massive chances. Celtic have been a lot more front-footed. More intent to play forward in space.”
