Celtic had just come off a gruelling and emotional Champions League trip.
So, in that sense, you probably expected Brendan Rodgers and his players to endure a difficult, nervy and probably close game against Motherwell at Fir Park days later.
But, as the clock was ticking towards the full-time whistle, Celtic were running out as comfortable 3-0 winners over Motherwell and returning to the top of the Premiership table.
Even with captain Callum McGregor out injured, the Bhoys still did the job, with goals from Luke McCowan, Alistair Johnston and substitute Adam Idah.
Unlike last season, the champions didn’t require late goals to win the game because, other than the home side hitting the woodwork before the opening goal, there was nothing to shout about for them.
One man who stood on the other side was midfielder Andy Halliday and he made some interesting comments before the match about Celtic.
Andy Halliday expected a close game against Celtic
Halliday even admitted himself that his Celtic comments could ‘backfire’, and backfire they did.
The 33-year-old stated that games between Stuart Kettlewell’s Motherwell and Celtic have been ‘relatively tight’ and ‘competitive’.
But, by the full-time whistle blew, Kettlewell was making odd comments about the red card challenge on Idah and Rodgers was taking home the points.
Halliday asked for it and he will be on Open Goal again next week to discuss it and you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be brought up.
How did Halliday fare for Motherwell against Celtic
The player himself only lasted on the pitch for just over an hour before being subbed off.
As expected, it wasn’t a great game from Halliday and he got a rating of 6.33 from WhoScored, which probably puts him in prime position to play for Rangers again because, with a performance like that, he would fit right on.
But, on the plus side, Halliday did make five clearances and two interceptions, but he was just outclassed by the genius of Reo Hatate, Paulo Bernardo and McCowan.
