Ange Postecoglou discusses Moritz Jenz and Aaron Mooy Celtic debuts
Ange Postecoglou was eager to give Moritz Jenz and Aaron Mooy their home debuts at Celtic Park today and feels they came through their initial test well.
Jenz got half an hour of action in the 2-0 win over Norwich City, with Mooy appearing for the last 15 minutes.
Both players only took part in their first Celtic training session yesterday morning, with Mooy not playing any football since he was on Australia international duty in June.
The Celtic boss said of their debuts, as quoted by The Daily Record: “I just thought it was a good idea to get them a game.
“It’s a big occasion any time you make your debut for a club at home, particularly at this football club. So I wanted to give them that experience today and I thought they acquitted themselves well. Moritz has had a pre-season, although in the last week he’s not done too much – but he looked good and comfortable out there.
“Aaron’s not been training but the point of the experience today was to give him the matchday experience. I know what Aaron’s like and he won’t take too long to get up to speed.”
Jenz was obviously the further ahead in preparations for fitness and looked pretty at home alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers in the defensive line, making sliding challenges and distributing the ball well.
Mooy had a couple of slack touches but was eager to spread the play and find space for himself to receive the ball. Postecoglou clearly feels he’ll have something important to offer when up to match sharpness.
More exposure to Celtic’s training at Lennoxtown will help both greatly, and hopefully they can hit the ground running and catch the eye in the early stages of the Premiership season.
