Celtic defender Adam Montgomery missed today’s match away to Motherwell through injury, manager Ange Postecoglou revealed pre-match.

Boli Bolingoli was a surprise inclusion in the starting line-up against the Steelmen, with Liam Scales on the bench.

Montgomery has been the go-to choice for Ange since Greg Taylor’s shoulder injury and started against Aberdeen before the international break.

However, an issue from yesterday’s session at Lennoxtown was at the root of today’s absence.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland [14:11], Postecoglou explained: “Yeah, Boli Bolingoli comes in at left-back. Unfortunately, Adam Montgomery picked up a bit of a knock in training yesterday.

“It’s nothing serious, but it was enough to keep him out of the game today.”

Presumably, it means Montgomery is also a doubt for Tuesday afternoon’s match against Ferencvaros, given it comes so soon after today.

That could be interesting with Boli Bolingoli not registered for the UEFA Europa League squad and Josip Juranovic nursing a hamstring injury.

We could well see Liam Scales handed his first-ever start in a Celtic shirt after coming off the bench against Raith Rovers in the Scottish League Cup.

Fingers crossed the Celtic youngster is at least available to give Postecoglou options for that crucial European fixture.
