Ange Postecoglou provides Celtic support with fresh injury update for Midtjylland

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has thankfully stated that those who missed yesterday’s game against Preston will be back in training tomorrow ahead of the Midtjylland clash.

It was hugely concerning to see a host of first-team players miss out against the Championship side. The likes of Ismaila Soro, Ryan Christie, and Nir Bitton all missed out despite looking like players who will feature on Tuesday night against Midtjylland.

Celtic would lose the game 1-0 yesterday in what was a hugely disappointing friendly performance. The loss only cranked up the anxiety levels regarding the missing players. It’s essential they’re fit for this week’s clash.

Thankfully, however, Postecoglou has claimed that all of them will return, but did cast doubt on James Forrest’s situation.

As quoted by the Daily Record, the Hoops boss said: “There’s a couple who are close and we didn’t want to risk them today. So those names, and Ryan Christie, will all train tomorrow.

“Because James missed so much, he was out for ten days, we have just got to be a little bit careful with him. He only really got a run out yesterday and while he will train again tomorrow Tuesday could be a little bit early for him.

“But certainly after that he will hopefully get a week’s training.”

Celtic can’t afford any more injury concerns for Midtjylland

We need as many bodies back as we can get. With Mikey Johnston and Karamoko Dembele looking highly doubtful to feature on Tuesday, we really need to avoid being short everywhere else on the football pitch.

There were one or two boosts yesterday in fairness. Vasilis Barkas returned to action after missing out against Bristol City through injury last week. He looked sharp and was forced into two top-class saves in the first half.

There was also the return of Albian Ajeti despite the Swiss striker hobbling off in the second 45 vs Bristol. He was ineffective yesterday, but it’s essential he’s fit given the uncertainty surrounding Odsonne Edouard.

The only major disappointment squad-wise appears to be Forrest. Postecoglou sounds as though he’s preparing Celtic fans for disappointment this week with regards to the Scotland international. With a bit of luck then, that will lead to Liel Abada making his competitive debut for the club.

Hopefully over the next few days we get some further positive squad news. But knowing that several who missed yesterday will return on Tuesday night is promising. At the very least it’s relieving given how short we looked yesterday.

Fingers crossed for a positive couple of days that sees as many players return to the fold as possible.
