Ange Postecoglou refuses to criticise booing Celtic fans

Ange Postecoglou would not be drawn by the press into criticising Celtic supporters who booed Leigh Griffiths today on the striker’s return to first-team action.

Sections of the crowd were not happy to see Griffiths take to the field today.

After the match, Postecoglou was asked about the situation, seemingly asked if he had anything to say to fans who protested against the striker’s inclusion.

The new manager was not interested in creating more division though.

As quoted by The Glasgow Times, he said: “I won’t be telling the Celtic supporters anything. They’ve followed this club a lot longer than I’ve been here. My job is to produce a team they’re proud of and we let them down today.

“Maybe it is a big challenge for him but that’s what he wanted. He didn’t have to come back.

“He wanted to come back and play for the club again and wanted to contribute.

“When you make that decision, you embrace everything that comes along with it.”

Leigh Griffiths situation is a distraction Celtic don’t need

Wherever you sit on the Griffiths situation right now, I don’t think anyone can deny it’s a distraction. In my opinion, it’s one Celtic could do without.

Just sell him and move him on. Bring in another striker who can do the business. I’m not quite sure why the club have such an attachment to Griffiths in particular?

It’s not as if the club have been shy to get rid of other players this summer such as Vakoun Bayo and Marian Shved.

I know Griffiths wants to be here, but the club always has to come first. For me, it’s long overdue that we seek a replacement.

There are all sorts of opinions flying around about Griffiths right now. None of it really matters in the context of our season. Move away from toxicity to a striker capable of making himself a hero with Celtic supporters.
