Ange Postecoglou shuts down reporter doubting his Hearts knowledge ahead of Celtic test

Ange Postecoglou hasn’t been messing about with the Scottish media since arriving as the new Celtic manager and it continued today.

With one-liners about not being an accountant or doctor proving popular with supporters, as well as his challenge to a catastrophe verdict from a BBC journalist on Wednesday night, Postecoglou has so far had much of the press in his pocket.

Asked about his first time facing Hearts as Celtic boss, Postecoglou wasn’t in the mood for entertaining the concept of being a Scottish football novice.

The Bhoys boss said [Celtic YouTube]: “I’m still on the same planet mate. I haven’t come from outer space. You’ll be surprised by how much I know about Hearts. I know Hearts very, very well. They’re a big club and they obviously dropped down, but they’ve come up and it’s always a good contest.

“You can ask me that question every week because it’ll be the first time doing it against every opposition.

“We’re well prepared, and not just me, but the coaching and analysis staff as well. We’ve followed them through the pre-season and the players will have all the information they need.”

It’s a brilliant response. The Scottish media shouldn’t really be assuming Postecoglou has to get ‘up to speed’ with opponents. Yes, there’s an element of the unknown, but as the manager says that’s just about experiencing new things, it’s not about being ignorant of Hearts or any other side.

Postecoglou has a full staff who will have done all sorts of research and scouting on Robbie Neilson’s side.

These media comments are great fun for Celtic supporters, but it’d really hammer home the point if we can pick up our first win under the new boss tomorrow.

Every fan is desperate for three points tomorrow. It’d really settle some anxiety and give Postecoglou a platform to build on.

That matters more than all this press conference stuff. But yes, it’s a right good laugh seeing him go up against these guys.
