Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou was full of praise for midfielder Aaron Mooy this evening, following the Bhoys’ 2-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice.

Mooy was voted as Sky Sports’ man of the match and not only scored a penalty in the encounter but also set up Jota’s opener with a raking cross that bamboozled goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.

The Australian international has become a firm fixture in Postecoglou’s starting eleven and after the match, the Bhoys boss hoped there is even more to come from him.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Postecoglou said: “He’s been going really well since the World Cup. The key thing for him is he’s built up his fitness back to the level I know he can get to. He’s a quality player, in any other universe he would probably still be playing in the English Premier League.

“We were lucky he kind of fell on our doorstep. Luckily he fell on a doorstep which was familiar to him and I was happy to open the door.

“I have known Aaron since he was a young kid and he has got this great capacity to keep working, he runs all day. If you look at before he came to us he didn’t play much and I am kind of hoping he saved it up for the rest of his career.”

Mooy has now made 30 appearances for the Hoops, with 14 of them coming as starts. In that time he’s managed to contribute five goals and six assists as well as become something of a favourite with supporters.

Backed by fan chants and appreciation for his composed midfield play, he can go from strength to strength in the second half of this season. Postecoglou certainly appears to have filled him with the confidence needed to succeed.

Having arrived on a free transfer, Celtic have already got great value out of the deal to bring him here.

In other news, Celtic hit new defensive streak for the first time under Ange Postecoglou.
