Ange Postecoglou summed up how reliable captain Callum McGregor is for Celtic after today’s 4-1 win over Kilmarnock, even though he made a goal-conceding error in the first half.

McGregor took one touch too many in the Celtic box and was muscled off the ball by Liam Donnelly, who eventually converted the subsequent chance after Daniel Armstrong’s shot was blocked.

It’s not something that happens often from McGregor and when asked about the incident on BBC Sportsound, Postecoglou quipped: “He’s allowed one error a career, mate.”

Celtic boss lauds ‘outstanding’ first half vs Kilmarnock

Thankfully Celtic were already four goals up on the Ayrshire side, so the conceded goal was of little consequence at all. Postecoglou was in fact very happy with the overall performance.

He continued on the radio show: “Our first half was outstanding – probably as well as we’ve played all year. Second half, we got a bit sloppy and never got into any rhythm. Overall, knowing the challenge here today, really pleased.

“Our football was brilliant, everyone was kind of in-sync. Our finishing composure, apart from the penalty, was excellent. We’ve had a real strong squad contribution the whole year. We needed it today and we got it.”

Celtic are 12 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a League Cup in the bag and a Scottish Cup semi-final to look forward to.

The Bhoys are also closing in on a number of records including a club league goal tally that has stood for over a century, stretching all the way back to 1915/16.

It’s easy to understand why Postecoglou is one of the happiest figures in Scottish football right now, and so relaxed when dealing with the press.
