Celtic posted an interesting video on their YouTube channel on Thursday. It was about Mohamed Elyounoussi and Jeremie Frimpong joining their new team-mates at training for the first time.
But viewers who watched closely may have spotted Tom Rogic in training.
Rogic has not featured for the Hoops this season due to injury. He has long been a fans’ favourite, and no doubt the Celtic support will be pleased to see that he is not far away from a first-team return.
However, the question has to be asked, would Rogic currently find a starting place in the Celtic side? For the moment, the answer has to be ‘no’.
Current attackers seem to be first choice for the moment
Celtic’s current attacking line-up seems to be one that will be first choice – injury permitting for most of the season.
The attacking midfield slot – where Rogic has often thrived for Celtic – is currently occupied by Ryan Christie. He has been in excellent form for the Hoops this season.
He has already scored eight goals in 12 games this season, which is a remarkable statistic. Christie is not in danger of losing his place in the Celtic team any time soon.
It is unlikely that Rogic is going to play on the wings anytime soon, and he may be many things as a player, but a striker is not one of them.
Therefore, when Rogic returns to the first-team squad, he may to be satisfied with a place on the bench. However, that does not mean that he will not have a role to play for the Hoops this season.
Can break down a stubborn defence
There will definitely be games where his mercurial talent will be need to break down a stubborn defence, for example.
He could also be very useful when coming off the bench, as he has the ability to change a game with his range of passing and tricks.
For now though, Rogic would not get into the best Celtic side. The good news for the player though is that there is plenty of time to change that.
