With Celtic getting set to face Athletic Club in Glasgow for James Forrest’s testimonial tonight, the supporters will be looking forward to seeing their heroes in the flesh for the first time since Brendan Rodgers took over as the Celtic boss.
The Celtic supporters will be hoping to catch a glimpse of the new summer signings. Odin Thiago Holm, Hyeukkyu Kwon, Hunjun Yang and Maik Nawrocki could all feature as some point tonight. Unfortunately, Marco Tilio won’t feature as he is still injured.
Athletic Club, however, have named the 23-man squad that they have brought to Glasgow and there are big names in there.
Spain’s number-one goalkeeper, Unai Simon will feature tonight. The last time Simon was in Glasgow, Callum McGregor and Scotland inflicted a 2-0 defeat on the Spaniards at Hampden this year.
Ghanian international, Inaki Williams has also made the trip to Glasgow. The two-time Spanish Super Cup winner will be hoping to get his preseason off to a goalscoring start as he bids to improve on his tally of 11 goals in 42 appearances last season.
There are two notable absentees from the squad. Spanish international striker Nico Williams and Spanish u21 international attacking midfielder Oihan Sancet have both been left behind. [Athletic Club]
Sancet was an important part of Athletic’s season last year. The 22-year-old scored 10 goals for the La Liga side as they just missed out on the European play-off places to Osasuna.
Williams was another of the Spanish players that suffered defeat to Scotland back in March this year and it seems that he has been spared from returning to Glasgow to participate in the friendly tonight.
Whatever team is selected for the Spanish club tonight, it certainly won’t take away from the occasion for the Celtic legend.
