Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong has sent a classy message to Celtic on Instagram after tonight’s entertaining 3-2 result in Germany.
Frimpong, of course formerly at the Bhoys, has become an integral part of this German outfit since his move from Glasgow. He’s played 19 games so far this season and started tonight’s Europa League encounter.
He was particularly impressive in the first half, with his pace and trickery causing Celtic problems in the opening stages. After the game he took to social media to send a simple but heartfelt message to his former side, saying: “It’s always special to see you again, Celtic. Have a great season! 💚”
Frimpong got a pretty rough reception from some supporters in the 4-0 game at Celtic Park, but it’s pleasing to see he still has a fondness for the Bhoys.
Celtic will always be the club that gave him his first big opportunity at the senior level and I’m sure that will carry gratitude throughout his career.
He also happened to make the club a healthy profit, so there’s been no harm done here at all. I hope he goes on to have a long-lasting impact at the top level.
His Leverkusen side will now go into the knockout stages of the Europa League as Group G winners. I’d be surprised if they didn’t make it to the latter stages too, given their intensity and finishing ability.
The Bhoys meanwhile head into the Conference League, where we’ll be unlucky to come up against a team of Leverkusen’s ability in the entire competition.
