Brendan Rodgers is king of the Glasgow derby.

The Celtic manager’s record vs Rangers is incredible and this weekend at Celtic Park, the Irishman has the opportunity to add to his stats with what would be a significant three points.

A victory would take Celtic 19 points clear of their rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership which would see the leaders take one more sizeable step towards the title.

Rodgers has overseen numerous big wins on derby day in Glasgow including a handful of clean sheets, thumping performances and narrow wins. He has been there and done it across his two stints in charge of the Scottish champions.

Inside the stadium will be a packed out crowd hopeful of seeing another win for the hosts on Sunday come the 12.30pm kick-off time and that will be just as it was when Rodgers took control of his first ever clash against Rangers all the way back in 2016.

Brendan Rodgers’ first Celtic vs Rangers game ended in a rout

It is difficult to imagine that coming as far back as nine years ago but the gaffer has lived a life since then. Celts have also boasted Ange Postecoglou as their leader since then but his Hoops side never really made Gers suffer as much as Rodgers.

So with the powderkeg clash coming ahead, we look back.

It was September 10, 2016, when Rodgers first stepped out at the dugout on derby day with Mark Warburton there to shake his hand and welcome him to the fixture.

Of course the Englishman needn’t have bothered considering Rodgers’ love for the club and an embrace would have been the last thing on Warburton’s mind on the full-time whistle.

Rodgers’ Celtic record vs Rangers is superb

Moussa Dembele hit the opener before he bagged a second just 11 minutes later with Celts looking to be on course for a record-breaking win. Joe Garner reduced the deficit before the break, though, to serve as a reminder to tighten the screws.

Celtic did just that in the second-half with a Scott Sinclair finish off the post and Dembele completing a famous hat-trick before Stuart Armstrong and his fine hair finished off the scoring.

Philippe Senderos was sent off amid the drama of the game but it was elementary by that point.

Rodgers will hope his Celtic can romp to a similar win this weekend against the inexperienced Barry Ferguson his rival on the sidelines.
