Celtic’s performance against RB Leipzig was a sensational 90 minutes of football put on by Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Celtic produced a superb team performance against Leipzig and started the game on fire. Brendan Rodgers’ side almost took an early lead after Daizen Maeda broke through the Leipzig defence but the resulting shot from Reo Hatate was blocked by the German defence.

Marco Rose’s side took a first half lead against the run of play after Christoph Baumgartner latched onto a poor headed clearance from Celtic stalwart, Cameron Carter-Vickers.

After weathering a 15-minute storm after the opener, Celtic slowly got themselves back into the game and on the 35th minute, Nicolas Kuhn equalised with a peach of a goal before putting the Bhoys ahead on the stroke of halftime.

Celtic controlled the second half and could have won by more than three but in the end, Reo Hatate’s goal put the lid on the win and ensured three precious Champions League points remained at Celtic Park. And Brendan Rodgers was overjoyed with the result and his players.

Brendan Rodgers loving ‘really exciting’ Celtic vs RB Leipzig

Speaking post-match, a delighted Rodgers told TNT Sports, “It was obviously a brilliant performance and result against a top, top team.

“Everything was really good about our game. I thought we were really exciting going forward, similar to what we here against Bratislava.

“And then I thought we had the defensive discipline and hunger in the game like we did against Atalanta. We obviously were able to press a bit more with the energy of the crowd and everything else.

“First 20 minutes, their goal, which we were disappointed with, rocked us a little bit. But then once, we then got the flow again and got the first goal.

“To think this is a team that’s only conceded what five goals all season, so for us to score three again tonight, really shows the level we are at.

“So, absolutely brilliant performance. A great evening for Celtic supporters, and pretty sure that they’ve enjoyed that.”

Where Celtic currently sit in the Champions League table

Now with two wins, one draw and one defeat, Celtic sits in 13th place on seven points. Granted, there are still around of fixtures to go tomorrow night but Rodgers’ team are firmly in the driving seat.

To put this into context, Man City, Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen have all played the same number of games and Celtic are level on points with only goal-difference separating the teams.

Brendan Rodgers now has a home tie against Clubb Brugge at Celtic Park up next and if the Northern Irishman can orchestrate another win, then maybe, just maybe, automatic qualification from the league phase can be possible for the current Scottish Champions.
