Brendan Rodgers has been giving his reaction to Celtic’s 2-1 win over Rangers on Saturday which puts them on the brink of another Scottish Premiership title win.
Matt O’Riley powered Celtic towards victory with a fierce low drive past Jack Butland before John Lundstram scored an own goal minutes later. Cyriel Dessers’ quickfire header in return would prove to only be a consolation.
Celtic are now six points clear at the top of the table with just two matches remaining. The Bhoys can confirm their status as champions with a single point against either Kilmarnock or St Mirren.
Despite lots of setbacks this season Celtic have emerged as the best team in Scotland again and fans are looking forward to a week that kickstarts the summer party.
After the match, Rodgers was understandably delighted with the result and what it means for their ambitions.

Brendan Rodgers on Celtic win over Rangers
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Celtic manager said: “It was very significant. We’re nearly there now. Not fully but three points and another goal to the goal difference is really good. It was a fantastic win for us.
“Right up until the penalty we were very good. The start of the game, the energy, the football, the speed – it was outstanding.
“We missed the penalty and it knocked a wee bit of energy out of our game. We had other chances and didn’t take them. When it is 2-1 at the end of the game there is always that wee bit of tension.
“It’s a brilliant day. Celtic supporters all around the world in bars and houses understand that Celtic vs Rangers is all about winning. The guys have won today and I’m really proud of them.
“It’s there for us now. We can see the finishing line, it’s there. We’ve now got to get over that. Our focus will now be on recovering and then go there on Wednesday and look to finish the job.”
Rodgers went on to make the point that Celtic should have been a lot more comfortable in the closing stages of the game but hailed his team’s mentality to come through unscathed.
At various points this term Celtic haven’t made things easy for themselves. The ending to today’s match was another example of that. Ultimately though the Bhoys are getting the job done.
Now it’s time to seal the deal convincingly with all eyes now on Rugby Park this Wednesday night. Let’s get it done.
