Celtic fans were left impressed by the performance of Vasilis Barkas against Ross County this afternoon after he helped his new team to a crucial three points in the Scottish Premiership.

Barkas has been a criticised figure of late with pundits such as Kris Commons and Andy Walker calling his signing into question.

Another high profile pundit, Chris Sutton, came to his defence this weekend. We discussed that on the site earlier today.

His performance in Dingwall will surely go a long way towards shutting the doubters up.

The Greek international pulled off a string of impressive saves to ensure Celtic maintained a cushion after rushing to a two-goal lead thanks to Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti.

Debut Bhoy Shane Duffy would eventually kill the game off with Celtic’s third of the afternoon before Kristoffer Ajer grabbed a fourth and Patryk Klimala a fifth.

Despite the eventually huge 5-0 win, Barkas’ saves were absolutely crucial to securing the result.

The criticism of the former AEK Athens man always struck me as bizarre. He’s only been in the door five minutes and will need time to adjust to his teammates and his defence.

On the showing of today, he’s going to prove to be an excellent acquisition – strong with his shot-stopping and taking control of the ball well in difficult conditions.

He still has a long way to go but there’s plenty to be optimistic about now and hopefully he can show consistency like the rest of his teammates.
