The Celtic players have stepped up under Martin O’Neill.

Led by Callum McGregor, Celtic have won all their domestic matches under O’Neill’s interim stewardship, including at Easter Road on Sunday.

Celtic’s 2-1 win at Hibernian became very nervy towards the end, and the backline was put under serious pressure.

But, led by Liam Scales and Auston Trusty, they did their job, and McGregor gave the duo their flowers after the match.

Callum McGregor praises Liam Scales and Auston Trusty after Celtic’s win over Hibernian

Speaking to Sky Sports, McGregor noted how Celtic showcased a ‘really good technical level’ in the first half, including the Hoops scoring two goals in 33 seconds.

But the Celtic skipper feels the team had to ‘fight right to death’ as they defended their one-goal lead, and he stated that Scales and Trusty were ‘outstanding.’

This isn’t the first time Scales and Trusty have produced these types of performances, as they have probably been Celtic’s two best players this term.

“Always hard, you come here you know you have to dig in, fight, show the best of yourself, and the boys were amazing,” said McGregor.

“The first half. A really good technical level. Played through the pressure. But you always know there will be a spell in the game, and you have to defend properly.

“I love that last bit there, with the line, squeezing it, and everyone is together. Fighting right to the death. Amazing win.

“This guy again was outstanding, alongside Auston. Won so many duels. We needed that from everyone. A real team mentality. Really happy with that. We rest up and go again on Wednesday.”

Scales’ stats for Celtic against Hibs

Scales has divided opinion with the Celtic fanbase, but you can’t argue what he has been producing this season.

Both on the domestic scene and on the European stage.

And against Hibernian, the Republic of Ireland international never gave up, as he helped Celtic to a deserved three points.
