Read MoreCallum McGregor "really annoyed" after Saturday Celtic draw
Celtic captain Callum McGregor made it clear he was not happy with the performance of his team in the 2-2 draw with St Mirren on Saturday afternoon.
It was the midfielder who rescued the point for the Bhoys with just ten minutes remaining, striking from a distance. That came after a Curtis Main first-half double cancelled out an initial Kyogo Furuhashi equaliser.
Speaking after the match, McGregor couldn’t hide his frustration, stating [Celtic TV]: “I’m really annoyed with that. First half, we were so far off the pace. We lose two really poor goals and we give ourselves a mountain to climb. Obviously, then they’re happy to sit in. You’ve got to probe and get back into the game.
“The second half was a lot more like us. That was good in that sense and we managed to get a point. But we can’t start games like that and we can’t give ourselves so much work to do. We need to learn quickly from that. There are three really important games to go and we need to be at it now.
“We didn’t start the game well, but in the second half, we looked like a team that wanted to win the game. We need to get back to that for 90 minutes. You think when we get the equaliser we can go on to get a winner but when you give yourself so much work, you’re chasing the game and it becomes frantic. We have to go now and get back to showing the team we are.”
Manager Ange Postecoglou also gave an honest interview in the wake of the draw and admitted his team simply aren’t working hard enough off the ball to earn wins at the moment. Celtic have only secured one victory from the last four league matches.
Celtic still have a treble to play for this season so it’s a bit early for the squad to be dreaming of their summer holidays. Thankfully, plays like McGregor are around to remind everyone today isn’t up to the standards they’ve set all season.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle aren’t simply going to hand us the trophy on June 3rd. A Scottish Cup victory will undoubtedly have to be earned. So the sooner the Bhoys wake up out of this spell the better. With Hibernian coming quickly, there’s an immediate chance to start peaking again.
