Celtic’s return to Rennes eight years after their first meeting in the Europa League will no doubt bring back some memories for Fraser Forster.

Forster, who has returned to Celtic on loan from Southampton, was in goal for the 1-1 draw between the sides in 2011.

Everyone no doubt remembers the own goal scored by Cha Du-Ri in the game. His back pass wrong-footed Forster, who had to watch as the ball went past him into the empty net.

However, the string of fine saves Forster pulled off in the game have all been forgotten about. As he returns to Rennes, can Forster once more be a Celtic hero in the Europa League?

Since Forster returned to Celtic, he has played three games, and had little to do in any of them. That includes the recent win over Rangers at Ibrox.

The game against Rennes will be his first real test since coming back to Celtic. It is the first chance to see how Forster handles real pressure in his return to the club.

Neil Lennon will be confident that Forster will be able to handle the occasion. After all, he has played in big games in the past for both Celtic and Southampton.

Therefore, he should be able to handle playing against Rennes. However, perhaps an early save will give him confidence going forward for the rest of the game.

It may have been a bit of a gamble by Celtic to bring Forster back to the club. After all, he had rarely played for Southampton in the last year.

It has worked out well for the Hoops so far though. Forster has been in good form for the Hoops so far. However, bigger tests are ahead for the player, and the club.

Only time will tell if his return to Rennes is a success.
