Add actor and well known Celtic fan Martin Compston to Hoops attacker Ryan Christie’s list of admirers. Compston, who has played at Celtic Park in numerous charity games over the years, was thrilled with Christie’s performance in the 1-1 Europa League draw with Rennes.

In fact, Compston wants the player to be a Bhoy for life after his excellent start to the season. “Offer Ryan Christie a 20-year deal” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Whilst Compston wasn’t being entirely serious, the impact that Christie has had on the Celtic team in the last 18 months can’t be denied.

Looked a natural in first-team since breakthrough

He has looked a natural since breaking into the first-team last season. This season he has taken his game to a new level. He is already on nine goals for the season, which is a remarkable record at this stage of the season. If he keeps up his current level of form, he could easily score 20 goals by the end of the season.

As for a new contract, that is not worth worrying about at the moment. The player signed a three-year deal last season, that keeps him at the club until 2022.

Perhaps in the future that contract could be extended. No doubt clubs will be taking notice of how well Christie has started the season for the Hoops.

For now though, the player looks set to be one of Celtic’s most important players as the club aims to win nine in a row and make an impression in Europe.
