The maths is simple for Celtic: win on Thursday and they will be in the next stage of the Europa League.

Celtic face FC Utrecht in their final game of the competition’s league phase and have their fate in their own hands.

A 2-2 draw against Bologna was well earned after playing over an hour with 10 men and sets them up well for the clash at Celtic Park.

Vasilis Barkas returns to the club for the first time since leaving his nightmare spell at the club.

However, things aren’t looking too pretty right now.

What sort of reception will Vasilis Barkas get at Celtic Park when he returns with Utrecht?

Utrecht lose again as tensions rise

Barkas has already had to speak with fans about Utrecht’s poor form and just three days later, there were no signs of improvement.

Utrecht were beaten 1-0 at home by Sparta Rotterdam at the weekend, their fourth defeat in a row, to leave them 11th in the table.

Ron Jans is under pressure but it doesn’t look like he will lose his job before the game, however, maybe defeat to Celtic would be the final nail in the coffin.

Have Celtic played Utrecht before?

There have only been two meetings between the sides before this week’s upcoming clash.

Sadly, for Celtic, the previous encounter doesn’t bring back happy memories after Utrecht knocked them out of the Europa League play-offs in 2010.

Despite winning the first leg 2-0, the Hoops were well and truly humbled in the Netherlands and were hammered 4-0.

With home advantage this time, Celtic will hope there is no repeat.
