Celtic edged past Hibernian to crank up the pressure on league leaders Hearts.

Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels scored as Celtic beat Hibernian 2-1 to move to within two points of the Jambos.

It wasn’t a vintage performance in Edinburgh but it was another win for Martin O’Neill, who is set to remain in charge for Wednesday’s game against Dundee.

Reo Hatate will rightfully get the praise after shining at Easter Road, but there was another who caught the eye for the Hoops.

Kasper Schmeichel praised by Celtic fans for Hibs performance

Kasper Schmeichel often avoids the headlines at Celtic as his work usually goes under the radar.

He was quiet for most of Sunday’s win, but was called into action at the end as Hibs tried to find an equaliser.

Schmeichel stood firm and many believe that if it wasn’t for the 39-year-old, Celtic might have dropped points.

@buff_egan said: “Schmeichel was AWESOME in that 2nd half, made some Great saves. His Best game in a long while.”

@TheRyanMcGinlay commented: “Massive contribution by Kasper Schmeichel in the closing stages there. Celtic drop points without him today.”

@nataliiejayy wrote: “That is exactly why we persevere with Kasper Schmeichel. His experience kept us in the game and was just as important as anyone in securing the three points.”

@ClaireyMac1888 added: “Schmeichel kept us in that game. He had some brilliant saves.”
